Strengthening our Voice (SoV) 2015-16

SoV is a four year project to build a stronger Voice for Landcare in Victoria. The project is funded via the National Landcare Programme initiative to increase the capacity of Landcare networks across Australia - view announcement

The key focus areas for the SoV in year two of the project are:

  1. Connecting the Landcare Community at the national, state and regional level.
  2. Improved engagement between Landcare and NRM organisations.
  3. Work with Landcare groups to develop strategies for improving NRM outcomes
  4. Develop the internal capacity of the organisation to function efficiently and effectively

The table below lists the key activities for the 2015-16 year

1. Create the Landcare Share Centre

The Landcare Share Centre is a website that will facilitate sharing and collaboration within the landcare community of Victoria.

2. Continue with developing the Business Case for Investment in Landcare

The Business Case for Investment in Landcare is being developed to underpin advocacy efforts. The business case provides the logic and the supporting material to help direct investments in Landcare to where they will have the best impact.

3. Develop partnership between Victorian Landcare Council and Farm, Tree and Landcare Association.
Hold meetings with state government, the Farm, Tree and Landcare Association, the National Landcare Network and NRM organisations

The VLC:

  • provides two delegates to represent Victorian Landcare at the National Landcare Network (NLN). The NLN holds six meetings each year which the two appointed VLC delegates attend to represent Victoria.
  • holds regular meetings with the Victorian State Landcare Team to discuss Landcare  development in Victoria
  • has representatives sit on a range of advisory groups/boards, including:
    • The Victorian Blackberry Taskforce (VBT)
    • The Victorian Rabbit Action Network (VRAN)
    • The Riparian Advisory Group
    • The EPA Community reference group.
  • holds annual meetings with the Chairs of the Victorian CMAs to discuss Landcare and partnerships development.

4. Develop the internal capacity of the organisation to function efficiently and effectively

The funds have enabled the following part time contract positions to be resourced:

  • Operations manager to plan and manage the project operations
  • Project manager for CLEA project
  • Project manager for developing the Business Case (TBD)
  • Communications manager to assist communications with and between delegates
  • Landcare Share Centre content manager
  • Business manager for administration matters

The National Landcare Network Newsletter, As you will read, there are very positive moves at the national level with funding now coming through from the Federal Government and the holding of the first meeting of the new Members Council. The National Landcare Network, NRM’s Australia and Landcare Australia Limited are also partnering to develop a “Value Proposition” to inform 2018 budget considerations, when the current National Landcare Program is being reviewed for new funding.
